Behind every successful OCIA process is a team of dedicated parishioners who work together to make sure the journey toward initiation is well organized, faithfully presented, and genuinely welcoming. OCIA Team Members serve in a supporting role alongside the director and catechists, bringing their own gifts and experiences to the work of welcoming others into the Church.

Team members may assist the OCIA director with the practical coordination of the program, help prepare and facilitate small group discussions, or share their personal witness of faith with candidates and catechumens. That last piece is more valuable than it might sound. There is something powerful about hearing an ordinary Catholic sit down and say, honestly and simply, here is what I believe and here is how it has changed my life. No polished presentation required. Just the truth, spoken from the heart.

Depending on the needs of the team and the gifts of the individual, a team member might lead a small group one evening, help a catechist prepare materials for an upcoming session, greet newcomers as they arrive, or simply be a warm and familiar presence that makes the room feel less intimidating for someone who is still finding their footing.
This is a wonderful ministry for Catholics who feel called to share their faith but may not feel ready to take on the full role of catechist. It is also a natural first step for anyone who wants to become more involved in the initiation process over time.

If you love your Catholic faith and want to help others discover it, we would love to have you on the team. Reach out to the parish office or your OCIA coordinator to learn more.
