What is A Family of Faith?
At Baptism, parents promise to raise their children in the practice of the Faith. The Church calls them the first and best teachers of their children in the ways of faith. A Family of Faith, from the Sophia Institute for Teachers, is built on that same truth.
Through this program, children discover the joy of following Jesus Christ and learn the truths of our Catholic Faith. Most of all, they learn from the everyday witness of Christian life that you, their parents, give them at home.
Families gather once a month to learn, pray, and grow together. Between gatherings, parents receive simple tools to carry the lesson home, so that faith is not only taught in the classroom but lived at the kitchen table.
Studies consistently show that a parent’s involvement in a child’s faith life is the most important factor in whether that child grows into a practicing Catholic. A Family of Faith helps you answer that call with confidence, and you do not have to do it alone.
Why should I go?
You love your children and want them to know Jesus. But life is full, and it is easy to wonder whether one more commitment is worth it. Here is why A Family of Faith is worth one evening a month.
You are your child’s first teacher. On the day of your child’s Baptism, you promised to raise them in the Faith. The Church does not expect you to keep that promise by yourself. These gatherings give you the tools, the words, and the confidence to share the Faith at home.
Your example matters more than anything. Children learn what they see. When they watch you pray, ask questions, and grow in your own faith, they learn that following Jesus is something grown-ups do too, not just something for kids.
You will grow too. Many of us have questions we never got to ask, or we have forgotten what we learned as children. This is a welcoming place for parents to rediscover the beauty of the Catholic Faith right alongside their children.
Your family will not be alone. Other parish families are walking the same road. Monthly gatherings build friendships and remind us that we belong to a larger family of faith.
It fits real family life. The program is simple and ready to use. You do not need to be a theologian or have all the answers. You only need to show up with an open heart.
Heaven is the goal. Everything we do as Catholic parents points toward one hope: that our children will know, love, and serve God in this life and be happy with Him forever in the next. A Family of Faith helps you lead them there.
“As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
